Easter is tomorrow and I have to celebrate it alone here in Dallas. So, I was thinking what novel things could I do with my boys Jon (13) and Jordan (10) next year? Flash across the silver screen last night, I heard about this little Russian restaurant/store that has many, many beautiful Russian Easter Eggs (Pasch) for sale. Taste of Europe was featured on the news last night and owner Mikhail Frumkin enthusiastically showed viewers his wonder display of Russian Eggs for sale.

The bejeweled eggs have a tiny hole that drains the yolk, then the shell is dipped in a special lacquer and bejeweled with diamonds then a last dip in gold and silver. Many are hand-painted with Jesus and other icons. Easter eggs in Russian have a very long tradition that symbolize the resurrection and hope for the future. How interesting for our children to learn the history of their faith and how Russians share our faith through these beautiful eggs.

At a “Taste of Europe,” it would be fun to start a tradition of visiting during the Easter season for a homemade meal of Borscht soup, Cabbage Rolls, Cheese Blintzes and Russian Tea poured from a samovar! Oh yeah, don’t forget to buy your Pasch Egg to start your own family tradition.
